Sometimes called Neuro-SCENAR

I use the Tennant Biomodulator. It is an advanced version of SCENAR technology-- Self-Controlled Energo-Neuro-Adaptive Regulator. The technique is a kind of biofeedback and has been called systemic interactive medicine. Although it's been used in Russia for twenty years, it has only just arrived in the U.S.A. The Tennant Biomodulator device is indicated for pain management, relaxation training and muscle re-education.

SCENAR (pronounced ska-nar) is a biofeedback device about the size of a remote control that has been accepted by the Food and Drug Administration for use in relaxation training and muscle reeducation. I use this device because I can apply its electrical measurement and treatment functions using my knowledge of acupuncture and am convinced that besides relaxation and muscle re-education it stimulates the acumeridian zones. The FDA approval for muscle relaxation is, in my opinion, due to the fact that the Autonomic Nervous System enervation to the muscles is affected by the electrical impulses that are controlled by the computerized Biomodulator biofeedback technology.

"Anything that hurts - it can help," says one enthusiastic practitioner (not Dr. Tennant -- who says that it is FDA approved only for relaxation training and muscle re-education).

The SCENAR was originally developed for use in the Russian space program. The manufacturer says, "They wanted to have a way the cosmonauts could treat each other when they were in space, but they couldn't take every medication they might need. The SCENAR was developed as a way to activate the body's own healing."

Running on only a nine-volt battery, the SCENAR has an active area called the electrode. Different types of settings are used: There is a diagnostic mode and an objective (treatment) mode. Adjustments can be made in modulation, waveform, intensity, the Z factor (which can magnify the intensity ten to eighty times), and frequency. When in use, the SCENAR may elicit some redness or "stickiness" as it moves along the skin, indicating to the practitioner which areas are most effective for treatment.

The treatment is non-invasive and the patient experiences a mild tingling as the SCENAR sends out electrical impulses. If, for example, the complaint is restricted range of motion due to a "frozen shoulder," the SCENAR would be applied to the area. The electrical impulses from the SCENAR would help to open the blocked neural pathways. When the signal gets back to the central nervous system, it activates the production of neuropeptides. These naturally occurring substances (for example, endorphins) are nature's own "medicine" which help to heal the body. Constant dialogue is an important part of the treatment process. "I have people gauge what their limitation is on a scale of one to ten. We have to have some kind of measurement, so patients can feel the difference within their body."

Duration of treatment and frequency of visits vary depending on the severity of the complaint and the length of time the patient has been experiencing it. An average treatment as the Russians apply it would be once a day for one to two weeks. On the day of the SCENAR treatment, the patient is asked to refrain from other therapies, such as chiropractic or massage, and for the duration of the treatment course should refrain from having any other forms of electrotherapy (for example, TENS). The SCENAR treatment will not interfere with medications or supplements.

A Canadian practitioner reports, "I've seen people with sciatica and herniated disks treated for three weeks who then no longer required surgery. I know its capabilities are phenomenal. Most of the patients who find their way to this treatment are looking for relief from chronic or acute pain or are experiencing a limited range of motion.”

Tennant Biomodulator™ - Created by Jerry Tennant MD

The perfect companion device to the Best Pro 1 Cybernetic Biofeedback device.

FREQUENCY SETS:  the Tennant™ Biomodulator® is capable of advanced frequency sets and biofeedback that are not available in any other “SCENAR” type device.  Each mode is achieved by pressing the mode-selector button.  It does not require that you remember how to press multiple buttons to achieve the mode you want.  As you press the mode-selector button, a light glows beside each of the following modes.  Stop on the one you want to use.

FDA Classification: 882.5890 Neurology transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator for pain relief; and 882.5850 Neurology biofeedback device.

Identification for use:
Symptomatic relief and management of chronic, intractable pain
Adjunctive treatment in the management of post-traumatic surgical and post-traumatic pain
  Relaxation training and muscle reeducation
Muscle Re-education
  Relaxing muscle spasm
  Preventing or retarding disuse atrophy
Maintaining or increasing range of motion
Stimulating muscles in the leg and ankle of partially paralyzed patients to provide flexion of foot and thus improve the patient's gait

Relaxation Training
  General muscle relaxation
Reduction of "secondary stress" that often accompanies disabling injuries and disorders

Contraindications:

Use of the Tennant Biomodulator may affect the operation of cardiac pacemakers, particularly demand type pacemakers.
Do not use the Tennant Biomodulator or other SCENAR technology devices to stimulate directly on the eyes or over the carotid sinus.

Federal law restricts the Tennant Biomodulator to sale by or on the order of a licensed health care practitioner.  A prescription is needed for non licensed practitioners to purchase a device for their own use.
