Extra information about the eyes:
Iris Analysis -- also known as Iridology
One of the important contributions of the work of Professor Peng
Jingshan and Dr. Hoy Ping Yee Chan is that it draws attention to
the eyes and what can be learned by studying this area of the
body. This book, Window of Health ---- Ocular diagnosis and
Periocular Acupuncture, gives definite evidence that the
eyes and the tissues around them reveal the results of healthy
or unhealthy flow of energies within the body. The study of the
iris of the eye, most commonly known as “Iridology,” is another
way to learn about the condition of other parts of the body.
In the last century many doctors in China learned about
iridology from Dr. Bernard Jensen, D.C., N.D. Dr. Jensen had
studied earlier writings about iris structure and human health
and then he developed charts of the iris structure and organs in
the body that have been associated with different locations in
the iris. His iridology chart has been translated into Chinese;
readers of this book may have seen one of his charts either in
English or Chinese. His work might be described as showing
“microcircuits” that are similar to those diagrammed by
Professor Peng; the iridology charts also remind me of Chinese
drawings of microcircuits in the ear. Other authors who have
written about iridology come from many countries (Germany,
Russia, Korea, Japan, Canada and England as well as the United
States), and there is much information available on the
Internet.
Physical Findings with Iridology:
On the previous page are pictures from the Canadian Neuro-Optic
Research Institute (CNRI). These include: (Top) photographs of
eyes, with the arrow pointing toward a whitish “ripple” that
reportedly is caused by increased tension in the Autonomic
Nervous System resulting in shortening of the length of the
fibers in that part of the iris; (Middle) this shows a
superimposed grid that was created by a computer program that is
used by CNRI to more accurately study the iris in individual
patients; (Bottom) this is the Integrative Iridology Chart by
CNRI founder, Prof. Bryan Marcia, Ph.D. The CNRI offers a
selection of books, videos, charts and digital iris cameras
called Iriscopes.
Neuro-Emotional Findings with Iridology:
Examination of the full-size charts of the iris of the eyes,
both the one by Dr. Jensen and the one by Prof. Marcia, will
reveal the location of areas in the iris and the name of the
corresponding tissue or organ in the body. This “microcircuit”
of body energy flow reminds me of the larger acupuncture
meridians that are described in Traditional Chinese Medicine and
that are illustrated in this book. For thousands of years
Chinese doctors have recognized that the energies flowing
through the meridians of the body affect all the functions of
the human being. I find it very interesting that TCM lists
different emotions associated with the different organ systems.
For example, the Heart Meridian is associated with Joy, the
Kidney Meridian is associated with Fear, and the Lung Meridian
is associated with Grief. The association of emotions with
organs becomes important when examining the iris of the eye. I
am very happy to have discovered the clinical findings of Denny
Johnson, as described in his book, What the Eye Reveals.
He founded the Rayid system of emotional iridology. It seems
clear to me that his descriptions of the emotions related to
areas of the iris demonstrate the same type of associations that
are made in TCM between emotions and organs. This is a subject
that I hope will receive much research in the future. You are
encouraged to read that book.
Iridology Professional Association:
In the past I have been certified as a member of the National
Iridology Research Association. This organization has expanded
its reach worldwide and is now called the International
Iridology Practitioners Association (IIPA).
The Mission
Statement of IIPA: The International Iridology Practitioners
Association was founded for the purpose of increasing and
diffusing knowledge concerning the art and science of Iridology
and to provide a forum for the exchange of information and
research with the goal of promoting excellence in international
Iridology standards. The IIPA offers annual symposia about
Iridology, and has a Research Director to help foster scientific
study of Iridology.
Final note about Acupuncture and the energies of the body:
It is my hope that there will be continued scientific interest in
studying the various microcircuits in the body. The work of
Prof. Peng and Dr. Chan demonstrates how important these
microcircuits can be to help people improve their health. As I
said in the Endorsement, I was privileged to meet
Björn
Nordenström, M.D., whose book Biologically Closed Electric
Circuits was well received in China. His research was
conducted at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden (this is the
organization that awards the Nobel Prizes); he demonstrated that
there is a difference in the electrical charge in the arteries
compared to the veins. This means that there is a flow of ions
through the blood vessels, and by the laws of physics this
generates electromagnetic fields around the blood vessels. I
think that his discovery is as important as discovering that the
Earth revolves around the Sun.
The fact
that the body has a complex network of electromagnetic fields
will slowly change the way that doctors think of the body and
also change the way we learn to live in healthy ways regarding
electromagnetic fields around us. Dr. Nordenström’s work can be
used to explain how acupuncture meridians exist. As I describe
on my teaching website in the Acumeridian Science section, I
suspect that these electromagnetic fields are responsible for
holding the thick viscous fluid Hyaluronic Acid (or
“hyaluronan”) in place so that it acts as tubules that protect
an inner fluid matrix that carries the energy known as Qi. Many
research articles found on the Internet are related to
Hyaluronic Acid and acupuncture. I am impressed by the success
that Dr. Nordenström had in treating cancers by altering the
electrical charge in them and in the tissues around the cancers.
It has only been two decades since his very important research
was announced to the world. I expect that there will be
continued gain of new knowledge as researchers and clinical
practitioners apply this important information to the task of
helping people improve the energies in their bodies. [Note:
Recently a video of Dr. Nordenström, titled “Biologically Closed
Electric Circuits” was placed on
www.YouTube.com; this describes
his discovery and how he found support in China for this
important work.]
